“Imogen Says Nothing” Reading & Panel Discussion | Fiasco & NYU-Gallatin
Fiasco’s residency at NYU's Gallatin School of Individualized Study allows for the opportunity to create events that live at the intersection of art and scholarship. When we worked on Aditi Brennan Kapil's play IMOGEN SAYS NOTHING during our Groundwork series this winter, we encountered a play that lives squarely at this crossroads - it's a bold mix of theatrical fire and intellectual rigor. Kapil describes it best: "a feminist hijacking of Shakespeare that investigates the voices that have been absented from our canon, and the consequences of cutting them."
On Thursday, June 10th, Fiasco presented selections from IMOGEN SAYS NOTHING, followed by a panel discussion with some of our favorite colleagues exploring many of the challenging questions raised by the play. The video was available to watch online from Monday, June 14 through Thursday, June 17.
This presentation was offered both live and recorded, free of charge. We encourage our community to learn about and consider supporting one or more of the below organizations, which are committed to uplifting, supporting, and celebrating underrepresented groups (particularly in arts and culture), including women, Indigenous people, and trans, non-binary, and gender non-confirming playwrights and creative professionals.
The Lenape Center
Lenape Center has the mission of continuing Lenapehoking, the Lenape homeland through community, culture, and the arts
WP (formerly known as Women’s Project)
WP Theater is the nation’s oldest and largest theater company dedicated to developing, producing, and promoting the work of women+ at every stage of their careers. For over four decades we have served as leaders of a global movement towards gender parity, and the example we set and the artists we have fostered have grown into a robust, thriving community of artists in theater and beyond. WP empowers women+ artists of all kinds to reach their full potential, challenging preconceptions about the kinds of plays women write and the stories they tell.
The Kilroys
The Kilroys is a gang of playwrights, directors and producers in LA and NYC who are done talking about gender parity and are taking action. We mobilize others in our field and leverage our own power to support one another.
