A Message from Devin E. Haqq, Fiasco Company & Pericles Cast Member
Reflections on the first week of Fiasco’s Without A Net Production of Pericles
It's amazing to realize that we've completed our first week of rehearsals for Pericles and that the show opens in just 10 days! (Do you have your ticket yet?) The major time constraints of Fiasco's Without A Net series are both inspiring and, honestly, a little scary—in a thrilling and energetic way. We're all stretching ourselves as actors, pushing the boundaries of our ability to create in such a brief period, and we don't have all of the answers to our questions...like what will happen? Will we figure certain things out before our first audience arrives?
Pericles is the perfect show for these big creative leaps, and we're putting things together in the rehearsal room that I've never seen before in other productions. Without giving anything away, you'll definitely see some signature element's of Fiasco's innovative approach to Shakespeare alongside new discoveries. Pericles is the company's next evolution in a joyful, practical, living and growing approach to theater. It's very fun to approach this story with such freedom and as part of an inspiring and supportive group of actors, designers, team members, and soon, audiences.
I really do love this play. It has a lot to say about faith, about honor, and about perseverance through hardship - messages that are both timeless and simultaneously exactly what we need in this specific moment. I hope you'll join us for this epic journey - we'll see you at Houghton Hall before you know it!
With excitement,
